Thinking ahead to December

I can't help it! With Thanksgiving right around the corner my thoughts are turning to Christmas. I may even begin my Christmas decorating inside our home tomorrow. Our college boy will be home for Thanksgiving and I enjoy having everything festive so that he can enjoy it when he arrives! I still have a copy of one of the letters he wrote to Santa when he was in first or second grade! If I can find it, I am going to post it just for fun!In the meantime, here is a little form for writing to Santa. I made it in black and white because I know color ink can be costly. Let me know if you would like it in color.

Doubles Facts

 Does your class get tired of practicing math facts with flashcards? This is a different way that they can practice, even as they are entering the room in the morning. . .mine love a slideshow and think its so much fun when I set the timing kind of fast to see how good they are!

Fall Senses

This was a fun Fall activity. We talked about the seasons and our senses. We made a cute book on the five senses to go with it. For each sense they drew pictures and wrote fall words.

iPad2

We are getting one of these for each of our classrooms:

I know I am super excited. When I heard that our grant was funded, I was so excited I yelled for joy. Right in the middle of class. No kidding! Then I realized that it was only partially funded and we had to figure out how to come up with a third of the money. Today our principal told us he came up with a way to help us out with getting our grant fully funded. We are feeling pretty blessed!

If we are lucky, they were ordered today. Fingers crossed that they will be here before Christmas break.

We have a few ideas of what we would like to use them in our classrooms. If you are lucky enough to have one, how do you use it in your classroom? Do students get to use it, if so how? (Remember we are blessed with ONE iPad2 each.) Are there any thing we can use them for beside "apps"?

Math Wall

As part of our Math Wall, we learn about times of day and things that are typically done during this time. We do this as a prelude to learning about time to the hour. On the download I have included a spinner template to attach in the middle of the mat. I glued mine to a piece of scrapbook paper, put it in a page protector and then attached the spinner last.

Printable Writing Paper

In planning a Fall writing project today, I realized I wanted a nicer copy for the kids to write on. When that happens, I normally find one of my handwriting fonts that allows me to create blank lines. I am never completely happy with the results, but it works.

I just wasn't in the mood to try and format something on my own and thought that someone else surely must have created something better than what I could create. Sure enough I was in luck! DonnaYoung.org had what I wanted. And it looks like there are many more things that I might want to use as well.
