Student Birthdays Idea!

Hi everyone! Gosh, I'm still out of the loop! I haven't had time for anything but I want to say I appreciate all of the nice comments and the awesome things you are putting on your blogs. I am seeing the wonderful stuff but haven't had time to visit and comment lately. I know things will settle down soon though!

I can't believe we start school (with students) this coming Thursday. Wow! Time flies by. I also have my first student birthday on the first day of school. I've been busy making sure I am ready. As part of what I do for school birthdays is that I allow other students to ask questions of the birthday boy or girl. I find in first grade it helps to have a bank of questions to draw from. I have done this for a couple of years and it is great and eliminates the "I forgots" after someone is picked to ask a question. I am including my printable in case it is helpful to someone else.

I used flower punches to make a flower shape and also punched a slightly larger flower to use as a mat for each flower. I then hot glued them together and used hot glue to attach to colored drinking straws that I found at Big Lots. I poured pop corn kernels into the little wooden box I am using, in order to hold the straws upright. Probably a picture would make more sense . . .

and here are the questions I used . . .

Hanging Table Signs, Birthday Boxes

Hey everybody! How are you today? I am happy to report that I am good! This is especially great news for me because on Saturday I was struck down with food poisoning and let me just say, I don't want to repeat the last couple of days!! Before the dreaded event, I was busily working on my room decor. Here is a picture of my table signs that will hang from the ceiling:

I also made coordinating signs to put on my birthday boxes. I have 2 just in case we have 2 student birthdays on the same day.

Thanks to Camille for giving me this idea last year.

Children take the box home the night before their birthday, put about 7 items in that are important to them, and then show and talk about each item at school  on the big day. It was so much fun, easy and the children really look forward to it.

Here is a picture:

Here  is the printable. . .

I am also planning a one year "Bloggiversary" Celebration. Stay tuned for that . . . Yay!

Printable for PixyStix Balloons

This is an idea that we saw on What the Teacher Wants last summer. It has been so much fun for birthdays this year and I decided to do it again next year but with a new design for the balloon. In keeping with the theme I seem to be developing for next year, I used the Froggy inspired clip art set from Nikki at Melonheadz Illustrating . . .I drew my balloon shape on my master and then copied onto various colors of cardstock. After that I cut them out and stapled to the giant Pixy. You can find GiAnT PixyStix at Amazon . . .

Birthdays!

Chari found a cute birthday idea on the What the Teacher Wants blog. It was a fun idea of giving kids a GIANT pixie stick on their birthday. I cut a balloon shape out of cardstock and decorated it using my cricut and scrapbooking supplies. We had our first birthday this week and it was a huge success! Here is a picture of mine. . .
