Daily 5

I have been working on my classroom next year.  I put this Daily 5 board together for my students last year.  This is what my students did this year to pick their daily five each day.

I love it, but I will have more students next year and wanted a change.  So this is what I came up with.  The students will rotate through out the week.  If you would like to download my daily 5 chart.  Click Here!

Mother's Day Idea and Home Projects

Good Morning! I know I haven't posted much lately. I have been busy at home doing some home renovation projects. We replaced all of the faucets in our house, I made burlap valances for my kitchen and family room, and have refinished some furniture . . .Here are some before and afters.

I also wanted to share that I am a contributor to a brand new blog called Teaching Blog Roundup.

It is super cute and going to a great place for teaching ideas.

I have a post over there today about this Mother's Day idea with included printables.

How many days of school do you have left? We have 16 days after today. I can't believe it!

Ladybug Classroom Theme

Hey everyone! How are you today?

I send all of my prayers and best wishes to Boston. I have been riveted to the TV following the tragic events of the last week.

I have recently changed my mind about my classroom theme next year. I had intended to do School Girl Style's Primary Apple theme, but am now going to do School Girl Style's Ladybug theme, integrating some of my own stuff.

I think it will be super cute! This morning, I started a Pinterest board so that I can keep track of things and ideas that I find . . .if you know of some fun ladybug stuff, let me know!

I also made a little framed sign to get me started . . .

My husband and I have also been really busy at home. I just refinished a bench with homemade Chalk Paint, he made two batches of homemade soap and we are in the process of changing out the fixtures in our kitchen and bathroom sinks. I am starting to post some of those projects on my home blog

Have a good week!

Hi everyone! I have a couple of things to share with you today. First of all, here is the view from my classroom right now.

All of the white stuff is actually snow falling. Bleh!

Now, onto the ideas. I have come up with a way to display, store and send home our writing projects. . .attaching the writing to file folders and labeling the edge for organizational purposes. I think I would file them all and then send home at the end of the year. For example, for the last couple of weeks we have been working on Narratives. We just finished the final draft yesterday.
Here is what it looks like stapled into the folder:

Here is my display on the wall:

I also wanted to share our big flower project. We made a big flower and labeled the parts. I did these last year as well.

You can grab the labeling printable by clicking here.

Prayers to Boston . . .

We've had a blast reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in First Grade.  For the past two weeks I've been reading about two chapters per day.  I bought a cute unit on tpt.  My favorite activity was the journal entry from a characters point of view. You can get it here.  After my students wrote their journal entries, I had them read them to the whole class and they guessed what character it was. While reading the book we noticed there were a lot of examples in the text that indicated the Scarecrow had a brain, the Tin Woodman had a heart, and the Lion had courage.  I made this anchor chart for my students to write down specific events that supported our theory.  You can get it here.  I love the Melonheadz clip art and bought it here.  We took our First Graders to the play, The Wizard of Oz, put on by a local children's theater group.  It was amazing! We also watched the movie and compared them.  After all of this my students and I agree that the book is always better than the movie!

Word Family Posters, ADORable push pins, Fun Craft Website!

Hi friends. How are you today? Are you off for Easter break yet?
I have a few fun things to share today. . .be sure to read to the end.

First, I wanted to give you a preview of my new listing in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. It is a 104 page set of word families and sounds posters. Here is a peek . . .(sorry that the screenshots came out a little weird on a few.)

Second, have you seen these adorable push pins from Amazon? I just got some and they are super cute!!! I think my husband thinks I am a little bit crazy but I think he is used to it by now . . .;)

Third, I have just discovered a neat crafting website. It is 30minutecrafts.com. I love that the crafts are organized by type and how much time the projects entail.

I found this cute idea over the weekend.

Lastly, I am going to be part of an awesome blog hop with great freebies starting on Thursday evening! Be sure to come back and check it out. You won't want to miss it!
