What Do I Do When I Finish a Piece of Writing . . .

Hi everyone. I hope you had a good Monday. We were supposed to have rain here today and so far it hasn't happened. I think the unstable weather is contributing to my SiNuS hEaDaChE!

We are on our 17th day of school today and are getting our routines down. We are also building our stamina in Read to Self and Work on Writing. I made this poster today to assist in our writing routines and thought I would make it in a few extra colors and share. . .

And Here are the AncHoR Charts!

Hello Everyone!

So I just finished up the rainbow editing anchor charts.  I just posted them on Teacher Pay Teachers! You can choose from a pirate theme, wild animal theme, or a spy kiddo theme. Hope you like them!  I can't wait to hang up my pirate ones.  Hooray!!!

Friendly Letter

After our iPads arrived I thought it would be a good idea if the kids wrote thank you notes to the people who helped make it possible for us to get them. So I whipped up this writing form.

Then I realized I needed to cover the parts of a letter with them, since we hadn't done that yet. So I whipped up an anchor chart for them to look at.
(sorry about the magnet)
What a perfect opportunity to give the kids an authentic reason to write. I could tell that they had a purpose because they were concentrating so hard on their writing and making sure that their handwriting was legible (another authentic purpose). I love it when we can give the kids a reason for why we teach what we do at school. It makes all of the difference.

FaCt or OPiniOn

Since we have a new core curriculum this year, all of our first grade team has been trying to integrate as much as possible.  We have done fact and opinion lessons with apples, pumpkins, and spiders.  We just finished learning about clouds and are going to do a fact/opinion activity with it as well.  Our firsties are getting pretty good at determining what is a fact, and what is an opinion.  For them to refer back to, I made a fact and opinion anchor chart.

Capitalization Anchor Chart

Yes, I know it is late in the year, but my little ones are still struggling to know what and when to capitalize something. I found this example of a capitalization anchor chart at First Grade Fresh and decided to make one on the computer (since I am NOT an artist of even the basic kind--that is my little sister's job).

Here is what I came up with:

Sentence Anchor Chart

I have several ESL students in my class this year, so we are working really hard on what a sentence is. I found this lovely on pinterest and decided to make one of my own. (Sorry I don't have the original source, if you know where it is posted please let me know.
