A couple of OTheR things!

Here are a couple of other things I have been working on....

A fun QUOTE for next YeAr!

Hope everyone is enjoying their break.  Here is just a fun quote that we are going to be using next year to remind students about making good choices.  We are going to post it, so it can be seen going into our classroom and post it, so it can be seen going out of our classroom.  We will also be enlarging it to post it in our hall.  I am going to make this quote part of our morning meeting.  Since we will have 30 kiddos next year, it will be very important for us to stay on top of our classroom  management.

Free Clip Art Online

Have you ever wondered where some of the graphics come from that people are using for their lessons? (Like this beaut of a smartboard file!)

Babbling Abby shared this tip about Clker.com and I have used it ever since.

It is a bit tricky to use though. (Camille, this is for you! ;) )

When you go to the main page, you will see a lot of stuff. Hey, this is free so it isn't hard to deal with a bit of advertising, right? All you need to worry about is this part of the page. It is right at the top so it is easy to find.

Type what you are wanting to find in the search bar and click "search." Sometimes this box can be very light in color so look for it.

After you wait for a bit (fingers crossed for a good internet connection), this is what you will see.

Don't panic! Scroll down a bit and you will see what you are looking for (hopefully - I have only had a couple of times when I have had to look somewhere else for the image I wanted).

Click on the picture you want. If you don't like any of those images sometimes there are additional pages of images OR you can click on one that is close and you can see variations of that graphic that might work better for you.

After you make your selection is where it gets a bit tricky. You want to be able to download the image to your computer so you can insert it into the program you are working in (for me that happens to be smart notebook at the moment - summer projects, don't ask, I didn't realize how big of a project it would be.)

Click on the word "Download."

Here you are given several different options: easy embed, download to computer with size options, and other formats available.

I have found that MOST of the images I have downloaded are png files, which are my favorite. I don't know much about the other formats, so I'm not sure if or when you would use them. I usually select the medium size just because. (I know enough about computers to get myself in trouble, it is a good thing that my dad and little sister are patient with me.)

This is what you will see after you choose your size.

You will need to save the image to your computer. I have a mac, so this is what you will see if you have a mac.

Choose "Save Page As..." Then, because there are soooooo many images on Clker you are going to want to delete some of the extra numbers and words that are attached to it. I always choose to save the images to my desktop because I am lazy and don't want to have to find them later.

You now have some new clip art to insert into your document. Enjoy!

Update and New Look

Hey Friends!

I'm so sorry I have been absent lately. I wanted to explain why, so you didn't think I had just quit you!

My dear father-in-law has been in the hospital for the last 10 days. Sadly, he passed away this morning.  He was a great man. We take comfort in knowing he is in a better place . . .

I do want to say "Thanks" to Leslie from Sweetie Baby's Blog Design for our brand new look. . .

Do You LOVE To READ!!!

Yes, I know that I have been neglecting my blogger duties (sorry Lory)!  I have to say that it is so nice to be out of school and be able to do some much needed bonding with my two kiddos.  We have been to the park almost everyday since school has ended.  Which brings me to my favorite thing to do in the summer other than hang with the fam....  READING!!!!  I have been devouring book after book, while at the park.  I know I am horrible, I take them to the park, so I can read...

I just had to blog about the new series I am reading.  The best ones I have read in a long time.  If you like Twilight or the Immortal Instruments, then you have to check them out.  They are by an upcoming author, named Amy Bartol.  She is amazing, and her characters you will fall in love with.  There are three books so far in the series, I am half way through the second book and I can't put it down.  I won't tell you the plot, because I don't want to spoil anything for you... Another amazing part about these books, they are cheap!!!!!  Can we say $2.99.

P.S. I am a big believer in reading reviews, but I just saw this book had five stars and decided I would go for it.  Some reviews have spoilers about the plot... and I know you will be much happier if you just dive in, and don't spoil your surprise.  I also have other great books I have been reading if any of you are interested.  Most of them are by INDIE authors.  HAPPY READING!!!

Only in First Grade

I know we have been out of school for a week, I have taken the last few days to recover. My oldest son graduated from high school last Thursday, and we are still adjusting to my husband's new health issues.

I just had to share what one of my precious little ones gave me on the last day of school.

She was so proud. It was obvious that this was a creation of her own. She was soooooooo excited to give it to me. I was super glad to get it. Yes, it is a paper towel tube, and an empty box of poptarts taped extremely well to a piece of scrapbook paper. The note simply said, "I Love You."

This little one struggled for at the beginning of the year, she was certain that the clean up bell at 3:25 was the bell for the buses to leave. We spent many afternoons reminding her what the bells meant at the end of the day. She not only overcame that anxiety but made benchmark on the spring DIBELS! She has grown up so much over the past few months.

It will be a joy to watch her and the rest of my little precious ones grow up, knowing that I have had a small part in their successes as students. They remind me that I can make a difference in the lives of a few children each year. My job is the best in the world.

I think this is the ONLY job in the world where a homemade creation like the one above can make all of the stuff that makes our profession not so fun worth every minute.

Spring Cleaning!

Click HERE to get the link and print
It's that time of year-summer break from school. The time to tackle projects that I don't have time for during the school year: Spring/General Cleaning! It is a lot of work and something that is spread out over days or weeks. However, nothing feels quite like a room that is really, really clean and fresh! The first room to tackle is the Family Room.

Reading Group Book Log

Hey everyone! I can't believe it but today was our last day of school for the year! My poor little first graders have had to put up with me being sooo sick with Bronchitis and  weird voice all week. They were such troopers and we had a fun last day of school today! One of my boys came back to hug me three times after the bell.  . .so sweet . . .I do have a quick freebie to share and lots of  ideas in mind to work on over the summer. Have a great evening!
