Parts of a Plant Project.

Happy Thursday Everybody! We are in the midst of learning about plants. To go along with this we made a big flower to label. I cut out some patterns using file folders for the kids to trace. They then added a stem and cut out their leaves by folding green paper in half. After that they glued the correct label to the corresponding part of the plant.

Michele's Giveaway Linky Party

I am linking up with Michele at The 3 a.m. Teacher for this Giveaway Linky Party!! What a great idea Michele. :)

A mailbox solution I love, word art and fun books!

Happy Monday EvErYOne! I am so excited about my new classroom mailboxes! I have tried a variety of different types over the years and would end up replacing them or having to tape them back together. I finally found some that I love! They are sturdy, a good height for the children AND they. are. black. WOOHOOO! The color that I have been searching for. . . from Staples Online. Item #680252

I also wanted to share this printable with you that I framed for my classroom. . .I made this for my personal blog, The Robin's Nest.

Last but not least, in this somewhat random post is that I wanted to share about a couple of books I have purchased recently just for fun. . .my students have been eager to use them  fighting over them!

Also want to say thanks bunches to everyone who has been entering our giveaway! IF you haven't entered yet you still have 2 more days to do so! :)

A borrowed IDEA...

I saw this idea on The Teacher Wife's Blog.  I thought it would be awesome to use this same idea in my classroom to help my little firsties know when "y" has the long "i" sound or the long "e" sound.  So I made my own for them to look at.  Hopefully they will use it to help them while reading and writing.  I also used The Teacher Wife's Fly Guy Idea.  It is not quite as cute as hers, but I just wanted something they could use as a reference.   If you haven't seen her Fly Guy unit, you have to purchase it.  My kiddos loved it.  I also included a activity that you can use for students to practice reading the words.  Cut apart the words and post them around the room.  Have them walk around the room with their recording sheet and put the word under the correct heading.  I call this a gallery walk.

Chick Life Cycle

This week we have been studying about life cycles.  We have been fortunate enough to get some eggs and an incubator through the extension office of Utah State.  It has been very exciting.  We got twelve eggs and we had eleven of them hatch.  The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever...  I made a book that went along with our study of the life cycle of a chick.  Sorry it isn't to cutesy, but it went along perfectly as we watched the chicks hatch.

My templates for our version of Pete the Cat

Here is the link for the pattern I made for our version of "Pete the Cat". I hope they scanned in clearly enough to make sense.  I used scrapbook paper for the inside of the ears but pink would work just as well. The little card that he has glued to his arm is run off on white cardstock. The children chose what color to use for the shoes based on how they wanted to fill out the little card.
